Our Roots

I basically grew up in my mom's kitchen...I used to watch her juice vegetables, make her own yogurt and fresh facial masks made from organic ingredients. She would put them in beautiful glass jars with a pretty handwritten label. I was mesmerized at a young age as I watched her simple self care routine with handmade, perishable products that she made with ingredients from her kitchen.

My mother was ophoto of our founder, Elia Hydef Scandinavian descent and taught me the value of self care through her extensive knowledge of holistic nutrition. You are definitely what you eat and embracing a lifestyle that allows the time to prepare fresh food with real ingredients instead of processed, over-salted fast food is crucial to having good skin and overall nutrition. It all matters what you put into your body and what you use on your skin.

I originally started Apothecary Fairy as a necessity to put myself through college as I did not have any financial assistance from my family for college, I needed to raise my own funds. I utilized my years of training to begin my journey into the world of local fairs and farmer's markets in 1996 which is when Apothecary Fairy was originally established. I concepted AF in downtown Los Angeles in 1996 then navigated to Tennessee in 2003 to experience rural life and to grow my business from the ground up, utilizing the six acres of land that I had at the time to grow many of the herbs used in our products. It was a busy farmer's market life in Tennessee for nearly 15 years before relocating to Colorado where I re-established Apothecary Fairy through local farmer's markets including Golden, Parker and Cherry Creek.

In October of 2021, I had the opportunity to open my shop in Aspen Grove, Littleton, CO and expanded to include organic herbs and loose leaf teas, kimono robes, plants and succulents and everyday self care essentials (natural bristle dry skin brushes, bamboo washcloths, scalp brushes). Our selection became curated around the idea of practical everyday self care items to help people establish good care routines and to help our customers recover from their stressful daily lives.

Since many of our customers are either in the healthcare industry or caregivers, my goal is to provide high-quality, authentic, natural handmade skin care products along with a holistic representation of other self care items such as herbs and teas, locally sourced honey, paper journals, robes, plants, salt lamps and spices.

Apothecary Fairy recently expanded into a new, larger location in May of 2024. We are now located on the south side of Aspen Grove Shopping Center just two doors down from Panera. We have a much larger space to offer DIY workshops, events and parties to include cold-process soap making, candle pouring and botanical sugar scrub blending. Coming this November, the next evolution of Apothecary Fairy will include refillable product options (liquid soap, shampoo and botanical room spray to name a few).  And in addition to our stocked inventory, we also offer custom scented options as well as for our online customers.

This is our 28th year in business and we could not have come this far without listening to our loyal customers. We are a local, one-of-a-kind, small business and we know that you have a choice when it comes to where you shop. Thank you for trusting us with your skin care + self care needs.

Wellness is living in alignment with the needs of your body, mind, and spirit. It is not a trend. It's a timeless investment in yourself. Make it a lifestyle! - Elia
